From 25 to 27 May 2026, we took part in the 16th edition of the Underground Construction Prague 2026 conference – this year as a Gold Partner. This traditional professional event, held every three years, focused on current topics in tunnel construction, geotechnical engineering, BIM and sustainable projects. Once again, it was a great opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with leading experts from the industry, both from the Czech Republic and abroad.
SAGASTA was represented in the professional programme by several presentations from our specialists. Libor Mařík co-chaired a session dedicated to conventionally excavated tunnels and also delivered a presentation entitled “Utilisation of Geothermal Energy from Tunnels, with a Focus on the Nové Dvory Station of Metro Line D”, prepared together with Jáchym Hobza. We covered this exceptional project in greater detail in a separate article.
Libor Mařík later gave another presentation, this time focusing on the reconstruction of the Dolnolučanský Tunnel on the Tanvald–Harrachov railway line. SAGASTA contributed to the project by preparing the design documentation, which included the design of tunnel lining rehabilitation, drainage, reconstruction of the portals and other related structures. The project involved the modernisation of a historic railway tunnel, with an emphasis on long-term structural stability and safe railway operations in the challenging conditions of the Jizera Mountains.
Another professional presentation by SAGASTA was delivered by our colleague Martin Baláž together with Radek Bernard. In their presentation, “The Utility Tunnel for Václav Havel Airport Prague – Project Assumptions and Reality,” they shared their experience from the construction of a major infrastructure project and compared the original design assumptions with the actual course of construction.
The 16th edition of the Underground Construction Prague conference was a great success – from expert presentations and engaging technical excursions to a rich social programme. We would like to thank the organisers for a perfectly prepared event and look forward to seeing everyone again in three years!
