The historic building of the main railway station in České Budějovice has undergone extensive reconstruction in recent years. It began in 2020 and was completed in February last year. The reconstruction, carried out by SAGASTA, was awarded the title of Monument of the Year 2024.
This prestigious award is presented by the Association of Historic Towns of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. The station building won in the category of large renovations costing over two million crowns. The total investment in the project exceeded one billion crowns.
The restoration of this historic building, which was constructed between 1907 and 1908, has been underway since 2020 under the supervision of conservationists. The aim was not only to restore the building’s original architectural value, but also to adapt the premises to modern requirements.
The renovation included repairs to the exterior and interior, as well as restoration of the wall mosaics. At the same time, the building was cleaned of visual pollution and some modern additions were removed.
SAGASTA is currently preparing the next stage of modernization of the entire station complex. A key element will be the construction of a new underpass connecting the station with the planned parking garage on Dobrovodská Street.
