Exactly ten years ago, on November 27, 2015, a group of five colleagues and friends decided to use their experience in design to build their own company. This is how SAGASTA was founded – a design office that has established a strong position over the past ten years, particularly in the field of transport infrastructure.
New SAGASTA branches and a major event with SŽ
In 2016, we welcomed our first employees, and by the end of the year, there were over 20 of us. 2017 saw the creation of a civil engineering center, and a year later, we opened our first office outside Prague, in Brno. At that time, the SAGASTA team had grown to 60 people.
In 2019, we carried out our first truly large multidisciplinary project for SŽ – the complete reconstruction of the Dětmarovice–Petrovice railway line. The year 2020 was marked by the establishment of the underground structures center and the water management structures center. A year later, the number of employees exceeded one hundred, new branches were established in Ostrava, Olomouc, and Plzeň, and we founded an environmental center.
In 2022, we reached another milestone: we opened our first office outside the Czech Republic (in Bratislava) and a new branch in Teplice. Another new office was added in 2023 in České Budějovice, and with it came more colleagues—we were now 160 strong.
We acquire VPÚ DECO and strengthen our position in Slovakia
The year 2024 was significant for us – in addition to opening a branch in Pardubice, we acquired a 65% stake in the traditional Czech design office VPÚ DECO Praha. It boasts more than 70 years of history. The integration of VPÚ DECO into the SAGASTA family has not only brought us new colleagues, but also the opportunity to share know-how between the two companies. In 2025, we strengthened our position in Slovakia with the establishment of SAGASTA SK s.r.o., an independent company with more than 30 employees.
10 years, 1,000 projects: the SAGASTA story continues
Today, SAGASTA employs 220 people and operates in nine offices in Czechia and Slovakia. In the 10 years of our existence, we have created more than 1,000 projects and built a position as one of the most important players in the field of transport infrastructure design. And we have more big challenges ahead of us: we are designing a central control room for VRT and the highest bridge in the Czech Republic on the Plasy bypass.
This is the story of SAGASTA: from humble beginnings with five enthusiasts to an established office that is not afraid of large projects or bold visions. None of this would have been possible without the team of people behind our company.
